Bob Wills Birthday Ball & Cindy Walker Tribute

For the third time, we pay homage to Bob Wills on the occasion of his birthday in March, 1905 with a Western Swing spectacular, celebrating his joyous and unforgettable music, much of it penned by CountryMusic Hall of Famer Cindy Walker.
This year, Prairie Moon opens our dance & dinner show, featuring Eva Mikhailovna and Kully Stiles with their all-star band.
Another group that makes Western really swing is Lil' Mo & the Lonesome Crows a side project of Morris Everett, the animated and always humorous bandleader from the Dynaflos. His group adds a little hillbilly, a little jazz and a lot of pizzazz to the performance, and features Jordan Bush on steel guitar and Miss Mac on vocals.
Headlining the Birthday Ball is Grey DeLisle & her Swingin' Blue Ribbon Boys with bandleader Eddie Clendening and a host of guest artists.
With the release of her recent Cindy Walker Tribute album, "It's All Her Fault," Grey DeLisle has assembled a dozen of talented female vocalists to pay tribute to Cindy. That album is available now on BandCamp, where DeLisle successfully captures the tone, emotion and style of some of Cindy's heartfelt stuff. Our Special Guests from that album include Mozzy Dee and Kimmi Bitter, who, along with Jody Byrd and MC Big Sandy, pay tribute to Bob Wills by way of Cindy Walker's compositions at our third annual Birthday Ball.

A brief History of Western Swing: In the beginning, there was Milton Brown & His Musical Brownies – with Bob Wills playing fiddle. Eventually, Bob struck out on his own and created the legendary Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys. 40 years as a bandleader, composer and recording artist established Wills as the King of Western swing, a compelling combination of country, jazz and blues. By 1945, Wills had become arguably the most famous bandleader in the Lone Star State, Oklahoma and California. In the early '40s, Bob was always looking for new material. In 1941, 24-year old songwriter Cindy Walker, a dancer, singer and actor, pitched to Wills the first of over 650 songs she would eventually compose, starting with Dusty Skies – which she wrote at age 12. In the eight Western movies Bob Wills filmed for Republic Pictures, Walker wrote 39 of the songs – and never had one turned down. She also sang and danced in those vintage cowboy reels. Walker's prolific song list includes many memorable standards such as You Don't Know Me, Bubbles In My Beer, Blues For Dixie, Cherokee Maiden, It's All Your Fault, Hubbin' It, Sugar Moon and Texas Waltz.

Join us Sunday March 15 at Campus JAX, 3950 Campus Dr. in Newport Beach, as we pay tribute to two legendary music-makers who share a special place in history.

Doors open at 3 with a special musical video compilation by MC Big Sandy, and show is 4 pm - 8 pm.
